Nancy was born in Winnipeg in 1929, raised with four siblings in Calgary and graduated as a Registered Nurse, Class of 1952, St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. Mother of five children raised in southern Manitoba where she and first husband Clifford operated a successful New Holland farm machinery dealership. Widowed in 1983, she later married second husband Richard; they retired to Vancouver Island, then Lethbridge until 2013 when they moved to the Shuswap. The Shuswap Hospital Foundation’s Fall Campaign will be starting on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017. During this period prior to Christmas, our kiosk in Piccadilly Mall will be open 10am to 4pm Monday through Saturday and we are looking for volunteers who will be able to help us staff the kiosk. Many people enjoy making their donations at the kiosk where they are able to pick up useful information about our foundation. Lois Ada Smith passed away at the age of 81 years on the morning of July 28th. Lois and husband Raymond Smith had four children together. Raising their family in Valemont, BC, they became long-term, respected fixtures in the logging industry of that area. Lois had moved to Revelstoke in 2007 to be nearer to family members and grandchildren after most had drifted away from Valemount B.C. where she had lived for over forty years.

We very much appreciated your past support of the 2015 & 2016 Charity Opens where the monies raised went towards upgrades to the Shuswap Lake General Hospital. The funds raised at the 3rd Annual Shuswap Hospital Foundation Charity Open will go to help fund upgrading the X-Ray Room 3 – Trauma room from analogue to digital at the hospital.

Dr. Lee Penner sadly passed away in November. Dr. Penner and his wife Jos raised their family in Salmon Arm and Dr. Penner worked for many years at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital as well as in family practice. He was a well respected and much loved physician and general practitioner who made a difference to health care in our community. His career spanned many aspects of health care including surgery, anaesthetics, emergency and obstetrics, he delivered well over 1,000 babies!.
