Marlene Kergan, Treasurer and Jim Perry, President of the North Shuswap Lions Club were happy to be able to assist in placing a bronze fish on the Shuswap Hospital Foundation Recognition Wall at Shuswap Lake General Hospital. The North Shuswap Lions Club have donated funds that will support the purchase of much needed equipment which will assist in providing the best in patient care and comfort in the Shuswap area.

Ted & Eileen Whitehead made their home in Sicamous in March of 1961 where they raised their 6 children. They were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with their 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Sadly, Ted passed away in January 2015 following a short illness during which he was very well cared for by doctors and staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital. Jeff Stacer, President of the Salmon Arm Daybreak Rotary Club presented a cheque for $18,503.00 to Fiona Harris, Director of Development for the Shuswap Hospital Foundation. These funds will support the purchase of a Post Anesthetic Patient Monitor for Shuswap Lake General Hospital. The Foundation is very grateful to the Salmon Arm Daybreak Rotary Club for their generosity in donating these funds for the purchase of this much needed equipment. One of our thoughtful and generous benefactors, Bill Douhaniuk recently passed away in Saskatchewan. It was the 1990’s when Bill moved from Saskatchewan to Salmon Arm where he farmed blackberries, raspberries, and later trees, at the foot of Fly Hills. Bill sold his farm and continued to enjoy the Shuswap area, he was an avid reader and frequently had coffee with friends locally. Over the years Bill has given of his time for the betterment of others, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also a generous supporter of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation. Stu and Kathleen Bradford, proprietors of the Barley Station Brew Pub and the Wicked Spoon Cafe & Grill, never cease to amaze us with their ingenuity and generosity. One of their unique contributions is based on the sales of a Chicken Pesto Quesadilla at the Barley Station Brew Pub. For every quesadilla sold, $0.25 is donated to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation. Over the past four years, they’ve donated well over $1500 from quesadilla sales alone, and this year presented us with a cheque for an additional $554. Derrick and Debbie are long-time supporters of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, and their most recent donation elevated them to the “Partner” level in our Champion Donor category. Residents of Salmon Arm for most of their lives, Derrick and his brother Mike inherited the Braby Motors dealership from their father, Ernie Braby, who started the business some 50 years ago. In keeping with dedication to our community, Derrick has also served as a past board member for the Foundation. We are so very grateful for the continued commitment and community spirit of folks like Derrick and Debbie.

A donation of $17,785.34 was presented to President Doug Murray and Vice President Rob Marshall by Shuswap Lake Health-Care Auxiliary President, Edie Swanson and her fellow Auxiliary members.
