Grateful Patient Jack Bowers – Local resident Jack Bowers recently experienced a life-threatening cardiac incident. With Jack’s wife performing CPR, Jack arrived at Emergency at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in a coma and in critical condition. He was immediately placed in an area with ice packed around him to protect his brain and cardiac system. It was vitally important to keep Jack’s body temperature at an optimum level to enable treatment. Jack stated “everything was done in a critical timeline”. The outcome was extremely successful and 3 weeks later Jack was back at work, exercising and living with a passion!.
“I am extremely grateful to each health care professional for their efforts” said Jack.
Following a request from the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for a much-needed system that will enable medical staff to quickly and efficiently control hypothermia or hyperthermia without the use of ice packs, The Shuswap Hospital Foundation has now committed funds for the purchase of a Stryker Meditherm System. This high priority equipment will be a much welcomed addition to the Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
