William “Bill” John Henry Nimmo
October 21, 1931 – May 8, 2025
William John Henry “Bill” Nimmo, beloved husband, father, banking executive, and proud Scottish-born Canadian, passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the age of 93 years, with loving family by his side. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Rosalind Emma Nimmo (née Eritsland), and their children, Bruce Nimmo (Pamela), Heather Welwood (Bruce), and Kathryn Wuolle (Neil).
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on October 21, 1931, to John Alexander Nimmo and Minnie Maxwell Cumming, Bill served in the British military before immigrating to Canada in 1955 to begin a career with the Royal Bank of Canada. He soon met the love of his life, Rosalind Eritsland, and they were married in snowy Lethbridge, AB, on January 28, 1956.
Bill had a strong work ethic, and his career brought his young family to reside in cities across Canada as he rose through the ranks of the bank.
He loved to travel and to learn, to photograph, to drive, and to cheer on the Vancouver Whitecaps. He was well-read on business, politics, history, and current affairs, and was always willing to have an informative conversation or debate. Bill’s advice was sought and respected by colleagues, friends, family, and community.
In retirement, Bill and Rosalind made their home in West Vancouver, where his grandchildren (Ian and Kate Welwood; Suzanne, Davis, and Alexander Wuolle; William and Maxwell Nimmo) share fond memories of him walking on the sea wall, gardening, and enjoying nature. A visit to “Grandma and Grandpa’s” often included a slide show of their latest international excursion, complete with a history lesson. His five great-grandchildren’s memories from his later years will include viewing his latest gadgets.
Bill will be most remembered for his joy and twinkling eyes at a well-delivered joke, his deliberateness in all things, and his fondness for good food, wine, and sweets. Above all, Bill’s love for his family will never be forgotten.
